The challenge

Turning qualitative mental-performance questions into structured, usable data

MindQuest had a clear methodology around mental performance in sport.

The challenge was turning that methodology into a digital product simple enough for athletes and parents to complete, while producing structured data that coaches and administrators could actually review and use.

The platform needed to handle two different perspectives:

  • the athlete’s own experience
  • the parent’s view of the athlete’s confidence, pressure, focus and behaviour

The experience also had to work without overwhelming users with a long traditional form.

On the administrative side, MindQuest needed more than a list of form submissions. It needed a way to understand patterns across respondents and quickly identify useful trends in the data.

The product

Two perspectives. One structured assessment system.

The MindQuest platform contains separate assessment flows for athletes and parents.

Both begin with a concise set of core questions and can expand into a deeper Tell Us More assessment.

Athlete assessment topics

Awareness of mental performance training, its perceived impact on athletic performance, preparation for high-pressure situations, mental well-being after injury, mental blocks, concentration, focus under pressure, visualisation, confidence, negative thoughts, self-doubt, pre-competition routines, willingness to discuss mental challenges, handling competitive pressure, performance-related stress, recovery after stressful events, and openness to sports psychology resources.

Parent assessment topics

Pre-game anxiety, how the child handles pressure, the perceived importance of mental performance, classroom performance, mindset and sporting performance, focus, goal setting, motivation, emotional regulation, confidence before competition, response to coaching feedback, pressure-related stress, post-competition recovery, and the balance between sport and other interests.

The result is a structured data set covering both the athlete’s internal experience and the parent’s external perspective.

01 — Product and UX design

Designed around completion, not form fields

Norvaris designed the application UI and UX from the ground up.

Instead of presenting users with a dense questionnaire, the assessment was structured as a focused digital experience with clear progression and a separation between essential and extended questions.

The goal was to reduce friction while still allowing MindQuest to gather deeper data when appropriate.

The experience was designed around clear athlete and parent role selection, focused question presentation, simple answer selection, visible progress, expandable questions, mobile-friendly interaction, clear completion states, and validation and error handling.

The interface was intentionally kept simple so that the subject matter — not the software — remains the focus.

02 — Two dedicated assessment flows

Athlete and parent responses are treated as different data sets

The platform does not force athletes and parents through the same generic questionnaire.

Each role has its own questions, answer options and reporting structure.

That matters because the two audiences observe performance from different perspectives. An athlete may describe how they experience pressure internally, while a parent may report what they observe before and after competition.

Keeping those data sets separate allows MindQuest to analyse each audience independently without losing the context behind the answers.

03 — Core questions and deeper assessment

A progressive survey instead of one long questionnaire

Each assessment begins with a smaller group of core questions.

Users can then continue into an extended Tell Us More section covering confidence, visualisation, focus, stress, self-doubt, routines and emotional recovery.

This structure creates two useful levels of data:

Core survey

Fast to complete and suitable for broad participation.

Full survey

A more detailed mental-performance profile with additional behavioural and psychological context.

The admin dashboard records whether a submission contains only the core assessment or the full survey, along with the number of questions answered.

04 — Survey logic and data architecture

The methodology was translated into application logic

Norvaris implemented the underlying survey logic and data structure rather than relying on a generic form plugin.

Questions, roles, answer sets, survey types and submissions are stored in a structured backend that supports both individual review and aggregate analytics.

This allows the platform to distinguish between:

  • athlete and parent submissions
  • core and full surveys
  • completed and partial responses
  • individual answers
  • aggregate statistics

The application was built so the assessment methodology could become usable software rather than remain a static questionnaire.

05 — Admin results dashboard

Every submission in one operational view

The MindQuest admin area provides a dedicated results dashboard for reviewing survey activity.

Administrators can immediately see total athlete and parent respondents, total submissions, respondent details and role, survey type, the number of questions answered, submission date and individual response details, with search, refresh and export.

This turns incoming survey data into an operational system rather than a collection of disconnected form notifications.

06 — Aggregate statistics and insights

From individual answers to patterns across respondents

The statistics dashboard aggregates survey responses and presents them as percentages and response distributions.

MindQuest can switch between athlete and parent data and inspect patterns across the assessment.

Individual survey questions are broken down by response frequency and percentage. MindQuest can see how many athletes report difficulty unwinding before high-pressure situations, how strongly respondents believe mindset affects performance, or how frequently parents observe competition-related anxiety.

The purpose is not merely to store answers. It is to make those answers easier to interpret.

07 — A dedicated analytics interface

Built for coaches and performance professionals

The admin experience was designed around MindQuest’s workflow rather than using the default backend interface of a CMS or form platform.

The application includes dedicated areas for Results, Stats, Sign-Ups, Contact and an Audit Log.

This gives the MindQuest team one controlled interface for both assessment data and related platform activity. The result is closer to a purpose-built SaaS dashboard than a traditional website backend.

08 — React and Supabase architecture

A modern application stack rather than a WordPress form

MindQuest is a standalone web application, built using React for the application interface, Supabase for backend data and application services, Cloudflare Pages for production delivery and Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection.

The architecture was chosen around the needs of the product: structured data, fast interactions, secure administration and a responsive survey experience.

This project is separate from the client’s Elite1911 academy WordPress platform, which is a different product and engagement.

09 — Security and controlled access

Sensitive assessment data stays behind the admin layer

The public assessment experience is separated from the authenticated administration area.

Administrative access is protected, and the platform includes an audit log for greater visibility into activity inside the application. Public survey submissions are protected with Cloudflare Turnstile to reduce automated spam and abuse.

Because the platform deals with athlete and parent assessment data, the production architecture was designed so that individual responses are reviewed inside the private dashboard rather than exposed publicly.

10 — Built for real data, not demo screens

The dashboard is driven by actual submissions

The administration interface is not a static reporting mockup.

Survey submissions feed directly into respondent totals, role counts, completion data, individual response records, percentage distributions, question-level statistics and dashboard insights.

As new athletes and parents complete assessments, the statistics update around the underlying data. That gives MindQuest an evolving view of how its audience thinks about confidence, focus, pressure, preparation and mental performance.

The technical challenge

Making a complex assessment feel simple

The most important technical challenge was not any single page or component.

It was translating a large set of questions, answer options, roles, survey states and analytical requirements into an experience that still feels straightforward to the person completing it.

The system had to handle two respondent roles, separate question sets, core and extended assessments, partial and complete submissions, structured answer storage, statistics generation, administrative search and filtering, secure access, exportable data and responsive behaviour — while the public-facing survey remained focused and approachable.

That balance between complexity underneath and simplicity on the surface became the central product-design principle.

The result

A methodology became a working digital product

MindQuest moved from a set of mental-performance questions to a complete digital assessment and analytics platform.

Custom product design

The interface and user flow were designed specifically for MindQuest.

Athlete and parent assessments

Separate questionnaires capture two distinct perspectives on athletic mental performance.

Progressive survey depth

Core questions make initial participation simple, while the extended survey collects deeper insight.

Structured backend

Responses are stored as usable application data rather than unstructured form messages.

Admin dashboard

MindQuest can review individual athletes and parents, survey type, completion and submission history.

Aggregate analytics

Question-level statistics and key insights reveal patterns across respondents.

Secure administration

Authentication, bot protection and audit logging support controlled access to the system.

Modern application stack

React, Supabase and Cloudflare provide the technical foundation for the live platform.

The result is not simply a questionnaire hosted online. It is a digital product that turns MindQuest’s methodology into a repeatable assessment and data workflow.

What this demonstrates

Norvaris as a product development partner

The MindQuest project shows a different side of Norvaris from a traditional corporate website build.

The work involved taking a business concept and translating it across the full product lifecycle: methodology, product logic, UX and UI, frontend, backend, data, analytics and production.

That means working not only with visual design, but with questions such as how the product should behave, what data needs to be stored, how different user roles should be handled, how complex data can be made understandable, what the client should be able to see and manage, and how the system remains simple for the end user.

That is the difference between building pages and building a digital product.
